A vital role to play in boosting economy

AT LAST a truly positive and, dare I say, uplifting comment about the place good recruiters have in driving a return to more prosperous times (recruiter.co.uk, ‘Retail recruitment’, 15 October).

If recruitment companies are regarded as an outsourced facility, briefed properly and used to the full extent of their industry expertise, they can not only save time and resource for their clients but they can deliver much more precise and timely placement solutions.

Any business seeking to abandon using professional recruiters should think hard before cutting loose an essential and valuable resource.

Some of us are made of stronger stuff

That’s great! We have had the doom and gloom mob talking us into a recession and now we have another business leader basically telling the whole of the recruitment industry to roll over and give up (recruiter.co.uk, ‘Recruiter relationships’, 10 October).

Newsflash, Mr O’Sullivan — some of us are made of stronger stuff. I built my strongest relationships during the last recession and I am sure many recruiters, through sheer guts and determination, will do the same in this one.

No jobs for plumbers

Don’t be deceived by training organisations’ PR (recruiter.co.uk, ‘Plumbing jobs’, 10 October). I recruit in the heating industry and I’ve had lots of plumbers apply recently that have been made redundant due to the virtual standstill in the housebuilding market.
