Soundbites

David Priestley Director, Source People

“We are looking forward very much to developing our business in the US over the coming years and expect with the new administration that the oil and gas industry will continue to flourish — which can only have a positive impact for Source People. We would hope for necessary action to be taken to stimulate economic growth and for international links to expand and we are well-placed to take advantage of any opportunities. With $150bn (£95bn) promised for investment in renewable energy, Source’s traditional oil and gas clients should see the benefits and we believe they will continue to go from strength to strength.”

“What pushes a downturn into something more serious is the sort of market panic that the Bush government not only failed to tackle, but might even have made worse. [President-elect Barack] Obama has demonstrated the measured approach and calmness that the US economy so badly needs at the moment. Consequently the result has certainly left me more optimistic about doing business in the US and, while I don’t expect to see any immediate results from an Obama presidency, I think we will now see a real determination to tackle the failings that have led the country into its current state.”

Ed Coyle Chief executive, HR International (sister company to Digby Morgan), US

“In the US, we are looking forward to how the rest of the world will respond to our new president. We all feel Obama’s election is a very positive event. Not much will change between now and the end of the year, but as credit issues become less of a problem, then the business climate will relax. With the coming of the Obama regime, confidence will grow and our clients will go out and do more business. Even in these tough times, there is still a lack of talent out there — that hasn’t gone away.”
