Hospitality recruitment: Recruiters welcome £200m investment in the North-East

Recruiters have welcomed a £200m investment to build a new hotel and restaurants in the North-East.

The proposals, which were approved by city councillors last Friday, will see developer Silverlink build a 250-bed, four-star hotel and several restaurants in the Stephenson Quarter behind Newcastle Central Station which would create 3,500 jobs.

Wendy Dining, managing consultant at Angel HR, a hospitality recruiter in Sunderland, told Recruiter that she thought the investment was great. “It helps the local economy. It is great for us a recruiters.”

Mark Norris, chief executive at hospitality recruiter Profile, added: “I can't think ofanything that could be more welcome in terms of positive news for the hospitality industry in the UK right now. I suspect the timescale for job opportunities may be slightly longer term than would be ideal.”
