Mon, 8 Apr 2013Australia has four new visa categories for business travel to the country, the Department of Immigration and Citizenship has announced.

This is part of a shake-up that came into the country at the end of last month, where nine categories were phased out and five – one of which is only for visitors for medical treatment – were introduced.

The Temporary Work (Short Stay Activity) visa (subclass 400), which will generally be valid for up to six weeks, can be extended in some cases for up to six months. It is valid for “short-term, highly specialised, non-ongoing work”. The visa application fee is A$145 (£98).

Visitor Visa (Subclass 600) has four streams, one of which is for business visitors, allowing business visits where you do not work for, provide services to or sell to an Australian organisation. The application fee is $115.

Electronic Travel Authority (Subclass 601) allows entry into Australia for an unlimited number of times in a 12-month period, including for business purposes. There is no cost for applying.

eVisitor (Subclass 651) allows multiple visits of up to three months within a 12-month period for “business purposes, such as attending a conference, negotiating or exploring business opportunities”. There is no cost for applying.
